The aveoTSD is a tongue stabilizing device (TSD), which works by holding the tongue in a forward position to control snoring. Both aveoTSD and Good Morning Snore Solution (GMSS) are not newer inventions in the anti-snoring market. They offer clinical effectiveness as well as superior convenience. Compared with mandibular advancement devices (MADs) that attach to the teeth and cause mouth soreness and pain, TSDs have minimal side effects from long term use.

The aveoTSD was developed in New Zealand by Dr. Chris Robertson, a dental sleep medicine specialist. Manufactured by Innovative Health Technologies (New Zealand) Ltd., aveoTSD is backed by extensive clinical studies to demonstrate its effectiveness for simple snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

I am a fan of tongue stabilizing devices, because of their simple designs and convenience of use. Both aveoTSD and GMSS prevented snoring in my case. A few differences between the two are highlighted later on.

Distinguishing Features

Medical Grade Silicone Material

aveotsd review aveoTSD is made out of medical grade silicone. Therefore, it is a safe material to use in the mouth for extended periods of time.

According to the manufacturer’s information, the proper usage of aveoTSD will enable the device to last up to 12 months.

aveoTSD snoring mouthpiece does not require any customization to use. Unlike MADs, which attach to the teeth, aveoTSD attaches to the tongue through suction.

Tongue stabilizing devices, such as aveoTSD and GMSS, are truly one size fits all design. Unless you have unique anatomical features, you will find the aveoTSD very easy to attach to the tongue.

Convenient Suction Adjustments

By controlling the pressure you exert on the bulb prior to attachment to the tongue, one may control the degree of suction. A tight suction may lead to discomfort during use. A loose suction may lead to the device slipping out of place. A little tweaking of the suction ensures that you get a comfortable fit.

Worn with Dentures

aveoTSD, like GMSS, can be worn along with dentures. This is because these devices do not need to attach to the teeth.

FDA cleared

aveoTSD anti-snoring aid has been cleared by the FDA, Health Canada, EEC, TGA Australia and PMDA Japan.

Clinically Proven

Several clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy of aveoTSD in simple snoring as well as mild / moderate sleep apnea. A list of these studies is found here. Again, this is a reassuring piece of medical evidence.

Easy Maintenance

aveoTSD offers easy maintenance. Unlike MADs, which usually have more complex designs, aveoTSD can be easily cleaned every day using hot water. Once a while, a thorough cleaning using any denture cleaning solution is recommended. The manufacturer advises against the use of alcohol containing cleaning solution, because it will damage the material.

Damaged Product Return

The manufacturer offers a six month replacement guarantee for any defective device supplied by the manufacturer. This is not a comprehensive warranty policy; however, in my opinion, something is better than nothing.

Potential drawbacks

aveoTSD is a simple effective solution to snoring. However, the following drawbacks are to be noted.

Tongue Soreness

During the initial few nights of usage, one may experience discomfort due to tongue soreness. Adjusting the suction may be one way to address this issue. I had to try out different levels of suction before I found a comfortable fit. Over time, however, your tongue muscles will adjust to wearing aveoTSD for long periods.

Increased Salivation

Some people have complained of increased salivation. My experience was also the same. This could be partly caused by how aveoTSD is designed. Unlike the GMSS, which has a short sleeve for attachment to the tongue, aveoTSD comes with a longer sleeve. Therefore, if you attach aveoTSD too snugly to the tongue, increased salivation along with the inability to swallow is a likely experience. Readjusting the suction may prevent this to some extent.

Not for Mouth Breathers

You will not be able to breathe through the mouth during the usage of aveoTSD. Therefore, mouth breathers and people with nasal congestion should not use this product for snoring.

No Return Policy

The manufacturer does not offer a money-back guarantee. For those who want to test out different anti-snoring products, aveoTSD is a rather expensive option to consider. The unit price of the device is $138.55, which is certainly high compared with similar mouthpieces.

My first-hand experience

aveotsd anti-snoring aid mouthpiece I received aveoTSD in the mail, 3 days following my purchase. I opened it up to find the following: 1 carrying case containing the aveoTSD and 1 instruction manual. I cleaned the device using hot water and wiped it with a paper towel. I placed the device on my tongue and gently pinched the bulb to obtain suction. It was time to fall asleep and test out my new product.

The first night, I woke up feeling discomfort in my tongue. I realized that the fit was too snug for comfort, and therefore, I loosened the suction by pinching and releasing the bulb. No more significant disturbances that night to keep me from sleeping. My wife did not wake up from my snoring. So it is safe to say that the device was working.

Unlike GMSS, the tongue soreness I experienced with aveoTSD was greater on the first few nights of wear. I believe the longer sleeve of aveoTSD, as compared with GMSS, could have been the cause of the tongue tenderness. Also, I drooled a lot on the first few nights, which thankfully went away with continued use. For all the seven consecutive nights I tested aveoTSD, my snoring was under control. I would wake up feeling refreshed the next morning.

Final thoughts

aveoTSD is a FDA-cleared, clinically proven tongue stabilizing device. It is reported that sleep apnea patients on Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine have used aveoTSD to control their symptoms of snoring and sleep apnea. The simple design of TSDs is a favorable feature as compared with the bulky CPAP machine, which fits like a mask over the mouth.

Differences with GMSS: Personally, I found Good Morning Snore Solution more convenient to use as compared with aveoTSD.

The following key differences between the two products, made it a simple choice for me:

  • The material of GMSS is considerably thinner as compared with that of aveoTSD. This makes for a very flexible and comfortable mouth feel while using GMSS.
  • The sleeves of GMSS are shorter than that of aveoTSD, which may reduce the experience of tongue soreness for many.
  • The design of GMSS is narrower and more compact than that of aveoTSD.
  • GMSS is more affordable than aveoTSD, and the makers of GMSS offer a 30-day money back guarantee.

My overall rating of aveoTSD is 2.9 out of 5.0
